Douglas Helm, MD FACS

Dr. Helm has extensive experience in reconstructive plastic surgery including breast reconstruction, skin cancer reconstruction and traumatic wound reconstruction. As the chief of plastic surgery at South Shore Hospital he cares for both adult and pediatric patient with a broad range of reconstructive and cosmetic needs. Dr. Helm completed the Harvard Combined Residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, followed by a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Massachusetts.

In addition to his experience in reconstructive plastic surgery, Dr. Helm is extensively trained in cosmetic surgery and can provide a range of services that deliver the most aesthetically pleasing results. After completing plastic surgery training Dr. Helm further expanded his expertise with an orthopedic hand fellowship. He provides acute care for hand trauma, infections as well as offers treatment for chronic and degenerative conditions. His training in both plastic surgery as well as hand surgery affords him specific expertise in the complexity of the hand. 

When not in surgery or consulting with patients, Dr. Helm tries to find time to sail in the summer and ski in the winter with his wife and two young children.

Dr. Helm is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and holds a Certificate of Advanced Qualification in Hand Surgery. He is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH)

Lisa G.

Physician Assistant

Lisa is a nationally board-certified physician assistant and is licensed by the state of Massachusetts Medical Board. She completed her training at Chatham University where she earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies. She began her career in 2006 and has worked in both general surgery and emergency medicine. Lisa has spent the last three and a half years working alongside Dr. Helm providing compassionate care to each of her patients. She performs preoperative and new patient consultations, in-office procedures, first assist in the OR, as well as postoperative patient care. She is passionate about education and ensuring that patients feel comfortable and informed at their visits. She enjoys getting to know her patients on a personal level and providing high-quality, individualized care.

Gia R.

Practice Manager

Gia is the Practice Manager at Helm Plastic & Hand Surgery. She graduated from Stonehill College with a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration. She has over ten years of management experience in the field of Plastic Surgery. Gia is responsible for the day-to-day operations and oversees all administrative aspects including surgical scheduling and billing. She also serves as a liaison between patients and Dr. Helm. Patient satisfaction is a priority for Gia. She’ll happily answer any questions you may have and make sure you have a positive experience at Helm Plastic & Hand Surgery.

Sydney L.

RN, FNP-S

Syd graduated from Westfield State University with a Bachelors of Science and Nursing degree, and is pursuing her masters in nursing at the University of Massachusetts Boston to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Sydney began her nursing career at Tufts Medical Center working on an intensive medical surgical unit throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. After working as a bedside nurse for many years, Syd decided to pursue her career in medical aesthetics.  

Transitioning into medical aesthetics was a natural professional progression as Sydney is passionate about developing patient connections and helping people feel their most confident.  She continues to deepen her practice, by  learning new techniques while attending conferences, taking extensive courses and has completed hands-on training with some of the best injectors in the country including Leslie Fletcher, Julie Kaplan, and Erica Barry. Sydney specializes in advanced botox & filler administration, sculptra, and PRP/collagen induction. 

Maura B.

Registered Nurse

Maura joined the team in January of 2022 and has many years of working in the perianesthesia setting. She performs preoperative consultation working closely with Dr. Helm and ensures that our patients are ready for surgery.

Maura is passionate about enhancing the surgical experience at Helm Plastics and providing individualized and compassionate care.  Maura provides our patients with support and education throughout the entire surgical process. 

Meghan O.

Medical Assistant

Meghan is a medical assistant who works closely alongside the Helm Plastic & Hand Surgery team to ensure that each patient feels comfortable and supported during every step of their visit. She graduated from Curry College with a bachelors in Biology. Meghan is devoted to helping others and providing compassionate care to each and every patient she encounters at Helm Plastic & Hand Surgery.
